This painting is a different take on my original Tree Sunrise painting. I decided to accentuate the height of the trees towering above you and give them more of an Australian gumtree feel. This painting really gives me a sense of camping. It reminds me of that special time early in the morning when you can just see the sun coming up or going down through the walls of trees surrounding you in your campsite. I love that time of day. There are so many beautiful colours and heaps of birds either just waking up and making themselves heard or flitting around catching the little bugs for dinner in the last few minutes of sunlight.

This adorable little kookaburra was originally painted as a gift for my friend’s baby’s room along with the other water colour baby animals in the limited edition print store. They look amazing as a little set all in white frames above his change table and I’m told that whenever he’s being changed he looks up at them and giggles and tries to talk to his little animal friends who watch over him. I love knowing that as he grows up he’ll always have some friendly faces to look to for comfort and hopefully one day he can pass them on to his children.

This drawing is a part of my “Floating Head” series. I just really wanted to draw this cassowary  head because it looks hilarious and made me laugh as soon as I saw it. That’s pretty much my criteria for heads to draw in my “Floating Head” series. If I spontaneously laugh when I see an animal’s face then I have to draw it’s kooky head straight away. I just really don’t like serious art. I think it should make you feel good and maybe even make you laugh.

This drawing is a part of my “Floating Head” series. Quokkas are a cute little marsupial that can only be found on Rottnest Island off the coast of Western Australia and also in some locations in the South West of Western Australia. Because they are relatively defenseless, small and inquisitive they are very vulnerable to attacks from introduced species such as cats and foxes so there aren’t too many on the mainland of Australia, though they’re just about everywhere you look on Rottnest Island away from predators. Living in Western Australia for most of my life I’ve visited Rottnest Island quite a lot and so have fond memories of summers riding around the small island on push bikes (there are no cars or motorbikes allowed on the island) to snorkel at all the beautiful little beaches and having these funny little animals constantly coming up to say hello. The Dutch originally discovered the island and thought the quokkas were giant rats and named it Rottnest which translates to rats nest which sounds horrible but quokkas are not at all related to rats and are actually very closely related to wallabies and kangaroos.
